Ordinary Acts of Love

Yesterday would have been my great-grandmother’s 97th birthday, she passed away last month.

As I sat to prepare to write, I could not do so without acknowledging and reflecting on her life.

Lawrence Dimaree was a seamstress who took great pride in her sewing skill, knowing that it would serve her throughout her life. Part of her legacy was teaching her great-grandchildren to sew. While there was no wealth of riches to pass on, what she left behind were powerful acts of ordinary love. Ordinary acts of love in the forms of skills like sewing, cooking, and gardening built the foundation of what has sustained many generations.

Although for many families now that knowledge is lost.

Through our community-based workshops and online classes Black Girls With Green Thumbs hopes to educate, reinforce, or introduce skills that will enrich the fabric your families’ collective consciousness. We are restoring relationships to food, land, and each other through urban gardening.
